Hunter Hydrawise HCC-FP Wi-Fi Replacement Facepack Panel (941500)

How to Replace a Bad Hunter HCC Facepack (941500) — Step-by-Step

Your Hunter HCC commercial controller boots to a black screen, the touchscreen won’t respond, or it dropped off Hydrawise after a storm. Before you rip out the whole controller and re-pull every field wire, know this: on the HCC, the brains live in the removable facepack — and you can swap just that part. This guide covers exactly when the Hunter HCC-FP (P/N 941500) replacement facepack is the right fix, what it does and does not include, and how to install it the right way.

What the HCC-FP (941500) Actually Is

The HCC-FP is the front control panel (“facepack”) only for the Hunter Hydrawise HCC commercial controller line. It contains the 3¼″ full-color touchscreen, the processor, and the Wi-Fi radio that talks to the Hydrawise cloud platform. When the display fails, the touchscreen stops responding, or the Wi-Fi module dies, this is the part that brings your controller back to life — without disturbing a single field wire.

Read this before you buy: The HCC-FP (941500) is the panel only. The power module and ribbon cable are not included. If you are converting an older ICC or ICC2 controller to Hydrawise (not replacing a failed HCC panel), you need the HCC-FPUP retrofit kit instead, which bundles the panel, power module, ribbon cable, and Wi-Fi extension kit.

Is the 941500 the Right Part for You?

Your Controller / SituationCorrect Part

Signs Your HCC Facepack Has Failed

  • Black, frozen, or flickering touchscreen — the display or backlight has failed.
  • Touchscreen won’t register taps — the digitizer layer is dead even though the screen lights up.
  • Controller won’t reconnect to Wi-Fi / Hydrawise after a firmware update, lightning event, or power surge — the onboard Wi-Fi radio is in the facepack.
  • Random reboots or boot loops at the panel that persist after a known-good power supply test.
  • Physical damage, water intrusion, or corrosion on the panel from a compromised enclosure seal.

Because the HCC’s power module, transformer, and station output modules are separate from the facepack, a failure isolated to the screen, processor, or Wi-Fi almost always means the panel is the culprit — not the whole controller.

How the HCC Comes Apart (Component Map)

Understanding which part is which makes the swap obvious. A Hunter HCC controller is built from these pieces:

  • Front Panel / Facepack — touchscreen + processor + Wi-Fi (this is the 941500)
  • Ribbon Cable — connects facepack to power module (not included with 941500)
  • Power Module — sensor inputs, P/MV output, common terminals (upper-left of cabinet)
  • Transformer — 120/230 VAC input, 24 VAC output
  • ICM Station Modules — ICM-400 / ICM-800 / ICM-2200 plug-in output modules
  • SmartPort® — pre-wired for ROAM / ROAM XL remotes
  • Enclosure — plastic, metal, or stainless steel with lock and key

How to Replace the HCC Facepack — Step by Step

Total time: about 10–15 minutes. Because you’re only swapping the panel, your station wiring, modules, and Hydrawise zone layout stay intact.

  1. Turn AC power off at the source and verify it’s off. Switching the controller dial off is not enough — kill power at the breaker or unplug it.
  2. Open the cabinet door and locate the ribbon cable connecting the facepack to the power module in the upper-left corner.
  3. Disconnect the facepack ribbon cable gently from the connector. Note its orientation.
  4. Release and remove the old facepack from its hinge/retention points and lift it out.
  5. Seat the new HCC-FP (941500) into the same hinge points.
  6. Reconnect the ribbon cable to the new facepack, matching the original orientation. Seat it fully.
  7. Restore AC power and confirm the touchscreen boots to the home screen.
  8. Reconnect to Wi-Fi / Hydrawise: from the Connection Wizard, follow the on-screen steps (2.4 GHz network required). Your existing Hydrawise account and controller config sync back down.

If your existing ribbon cable or power module is also damaged (corrosion, burnt connector), order those parts too — the 941500 panel won’t fix a bad power module on its own.

Watch: Hunter Hydrawise HCC Overview

This official Hunter Industries walkthrough shows the HCC touchscreen interface, Hydrawise features, and how the modular system fits together — useful context before and after a facepack swap:

Reconnecting to Hydrawise After the Swap

The HCC stores your zone names, programs, and schedules in your Hydrawise cloud account, so a new facepack pulls them back down once it’s online. To get connected:

  1. On the new panel, tap through the Connection Wizard.
  2. Choose your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (the HCC does not support 5 GHz-only networks). Supported security: WPA/WPA2 Personal.
  3. Log in / link to your existing Hydrawise account when prompted.
  4. If signal is weak inside a metal cabinet, add the ANT-EXT-KIT Wi-Fi antenna extension to move the antenna outside the enclosure.
  5. Verify zones and programs populate, then run a quick manual test on one station.

No internet at the site yet? You can still program the controller offline at the touchscreen via Configure Offline and connect to Hydrawise later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 941500 include the power module and ribbon cable?

No. The HCC-FP (941500) is the facepack/panel only. If your power module or ribbon cable is also damaged, order them separately. If you’re upgrading an ICC/ICC2 (not replacing a failed HCC), buy the HCC-FPUP kit which includes all three parts plus a Wi-Fi extension kit.

Will I lose my Hydrawise programs when I swap the facepack?

No. Your zone names, programs, and schedules are stored in your Hydrawise cloud account. Once the new facepack connects to Wi-Fi and links to your account, your configuration syncs back down automatically.

Can I use the 941500 to add Wi-Fi to my I-Core?

No. The HCC-FP is not compatible with Hunter I-Core controllers. I-Core is a different controller family. The 941500 fits HCC controllers (HCC-800PL/M/SS) only.

Why won’t my HCC connect to my 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

The HCC’s Wi-Fi radio is 2.4 GHz only (802.11 b/g/n) and supports WPA/WPA2 Personal security. Make sure your router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz band and that the controller is connecting to it. For weak signal inside metal cabinets, add the ANT-EXT-KIT antenna extension.

Do I need an electrician to replace the facepack?

Replacing just the facepack does not involve high-voltage wiring — you only disconnect a low-voltage ribbon cable after killing AC power at the source. No electrician is required for a panel-only swap. (High-voltage AC connections, like a full controller install, should be done by a licensed electrician.)
