Most irrigation contractors have encountered this problem: a remote property — a vacation home, a ranch, an agricultural edge lot — where Wi-Fi is unreliable or nonexistent. A smart controller is only as smart as its data connection. The Rachio Cellular Connect module solves this with a built-in LTE cellular modem, turning any location with cellular coverage into a remotely managed irrigation site.

What Is Rachio Cellular Connect?

Rachio Cellular Connect is an add-on module that plugs directly into any Rachio R3 Pro Series controller. It replaces the Wi-Fi dependency with cellular data connectivity — no router, no password, no cable run. The module includes a pre-paid SIM card with coverage on major North American LTE networks. Setup takes under 5 minutes.

Use Cases: Where Cellular Beats Wi-Fi

Rural residential and vacation properties: Internet is spotty or the homeowner is away for months. Cellular keeps the system connected and manageable 24/7.
Construction sites with irrigation: Wi-Fi infrastructure is not in place yet. Cellular enables remote control during the establishment phase.
Agricultural edges and outbuildings: Wi-Fi does not reach the back 40. Cellular does.
Multi-tenant or commercial retrofits: Adding Wi-Fi to an existing building for an irrigation controller is impractical. Cellular is plug-and-play.

Full Functionality Over Cellular

The Cellular Connect module delivers the same feature set as Wi-Fi: remote scheduling, weather-based skip, flow meter alerts, Pro Properties dashboard access, push notifications, and firmware updates. Everything works over cellular — the end user and the contractor see no difference in the Rachio app.

Big Irrigation does not stock the official Rachio Cellular Connect module. For no-Wi-Fi jobs we carry the CELL-BOX cellular add-on (Hunter, Rain Bird, and existing Rachio Wi-Fi controllers) and Hunter Hydrawise controllers with Hunter cellular modules for new installs.
